A small wave - the HD-DVD player finally arrives

*Drum Rolls*...Voila! The first taste of higher definition picture and sound is now possible with the two new Toshiba players that have released today - priced at US$499 and US$799. Four movies are currently available (Serenity, The Last Samurai, Million Dollar Baby, The Phantom of the Opera) and it is expected that this new format will boost HDTV sales, probably even surpassing standard television sales in the U.S.
However, let's not forget that a new format is on its way to fuel the "format war" - that's right, the Blu-Ray. The biggest problem is that HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are incompatible and consumers definately don't like to switch players too fast.
Playstation 3 is another system that supports the Blu-Ray format and, considering the loyalty of Sony's fans, it is expected to propel Blu-Ray discs to popularity. We'll just have to wait and see...
