Digital Piracy Hits Print Hard
August 28th 2008 05:41
A new web start-up Mygazines.com has begun encouraging people to copy magazines and put them up on the web for file sharing. People, Men’s Health and The Economist have all felt the wrath.
The site’s creators claim that redistributing magazine content via the web is no different than having a hard copy available in a doctors surgery waiting room for all the patients to read. But the magazine publishing industry are furious and are widely expected to begin legal proceedings to have the site shut down before the end of the year.
But for now, readers are smiling. Contributions have to rushing in and the site is doubling its library weekly. Are the days of magazines behind us? Or is this just the latest form of information piracy?
