Mobile Newspapers – Print’s only option?
August 28th 2008 06:56
Subscriptions to traditional newspapers are down. But there might still be hope for the daily. Access to blogs and web sites through mobile technology could help newspapers make a resurgence.
Information needs to be sent and received immediately. Gen Y thrives on instantaneous consumption of media. But for quality they still need brands to look to and connect with.
Texting and email are just the tip of the ice berg. Newspapers in the not too distant future will be able to send personally designed stories to individuals as soon as they are subbed. This means not having to search for articles, but having them delivered.
Mobile technology will eventually become so advanced that you won’t even need to input your preferences. Newspapers will be able to search your social networking site profile and tailor news to your wants and needs.
Newspapers are in the best possible position to take advantage of this because they already have brand name recognition. Unlike Internet start-ups they will bring a new audience to mobile technology as well as recruiting new readers.
Young people own mobile; it is their medium. Want a litmus test for your ideas? Ask your kids. Better yet, text them.
