With mobile being the next big thing in communication its only natural that gamers have jumped on the bandwagon. It started with the simplest of amusements like snake and tetris, but mobile games are hitting out with multiplayer.
The popularity of multiplayer mobile games is growing amongst Y Gens. Solo-play high score, turn-based, real-time and other models are all taking off around the world. According to a new report by Frost and Sullivan the trend is going to continue exponentially for some time to come. Market researchers expect more than 155 million downloads of such games by 2013. The report emphasises that the need for advancement and expansion of 3G networks and mobile social networking in order to maintain the drive. At this stage real-time multiplayer games are still poor because of lag times and the lack of capable phones.
The research warns, however, that gaming service providers and consumers shouldn’t expect mobile technology to achieve the same levels of functionality as PC’s and specifically designed gaming consoles. Also, a gamers’ attention span is far lower ona mobile device than when they are playing in front of a larger screen. Add to this the lack of battery power that Mobile phones still have and the mobile multi-player gaming revolution could still be a ways off.
