Text Messaging Reigns Supreme

While music and email capabilities have become standard across the entire range of mobile phones these days, text messaging stills rules when it comes to the everyday user. Text messaging is by far the most frequent feature used by mobile phone owners and subsequently their first consideration when it comes to buying a new handset.
Results of a recent study by Amplitude Research has revealed that nearly two thirds of mobile phone subscribers cite text messaging as the most critical feature of their mobile phone. A close second was the camera, but while email and web access are on the increase they still rate poorly on the list of users’ needs.
Mobile video and music are also on the boom, increasing to a third of user traffic collectively.
But the phones that you buy in the box aren’t enough for many subscribers. Over 40 percent have admitted to downloading new applications for their phones. 21 percent have downloaded six or more. Two fifths of this group use their phones to regularly check stocks, get alerts about traffic and weather, and receive news reports.
But even personal finance is going mobile. Almost 30 percent of application downloaders are doing mobile banking, while 16 percent are making credit card or mortgage payments on the go.
