Your Mobile Phone to become a Mobile Wallet
June 17th 2008 07:56
Mobile commerce is set to be one of the next big trends in the move to mobile technology. It is expected that almost 10% of people in the western world will convert their mobile phones to mobile wallets over the next three years.
A report, “2008 Global Mobile – Data and Content Markets” has found that mobile commerce is an important and fast-growing phenomenon, driven mostly by convenience and trust in mobile and Internet systems.
Japan and South Korea were among the first countries to offer the low-cost model to mobile companies. Mobile content markets are now flourishing in these markets. Japanese consumers used their mobile to make over $1 billion in 2006 alone.
Analysts have predicted that in 2008, mobile trials of payment systems will be trialled in Europe and the UK. Some of the European companies involved in the experiment include; Bouygues Telecom, KPN, Mobilkom Austria, Orange, SFR, SK Telecom, Telefonica Móviles España, Telenor, TeliaSonera, TIM, Vodafone, Polkomtel, Elisa and 3.
The trend is also taking off in the developing world. Countries like Nigeria and Morocco in Africa, and Brazil and Argentina in south America have seen mobiles continuing their rise in the banking sector. As such, more mobile services will soon be available outside the western world.
